Al Lubel's Bio
Al Lubel became a lawyer to satisfy his mother and quit to become a comedian to satisfy his sadistic need to torture her. After graduating law school in Florida, Al moved to California, passed the bar exam on his first try and immediately began the practice of standup comedy.
After winning the $100,000 grand prize on Star Search, Al has gone on to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
He has also played an attorney on the Blake Clark HBO Comedy Hour and has been featured in the Showtime and PBS special, A Standup Life. He has appeared on all seven episodes of the ESPN series, Bill Walton's Long Strange Trip, and currently has a new documentary out about his life called Mentally Al.
Al's comedy special, Al Alone, earned himself Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best one person show in the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In addition, Al was nominated for best performer for a solo show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Al Lubel (born 1956) is an American comedian and actor.
Early life and education
Lubel was born in Queens to a Jewish family. He grew up in Florida.[1] He went to college in Florida and graduated from the University of Miami School of Law and then moved to California where he passed the California Bar Exam. He practiced law for four years while moonlighting doing stand-up, and left the bar in 1986.[1][2]
Career
Lubel won Star Search in the comedian category in 1988, winning $100,000.[3] He was the subject of an episode of the BBC series Funny Business in 1992. He appeared on The Tonight Show, one of the last comedians to perform while Johnny Carson was the host. He has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman five times beginning in 2001; Letterman told him "There's something wrong with you Al."[4] He won the Edinburgh Fri

Al Lubel became a lawyer to please his mother and a comedian to please himself (which did not please his mother). After graduating from law school in Florida, Al moved to Los Angeles, passed the California Bar Exam on his first try and wouldn’t you know it, immediately began the practice of stand-up comedy.
Lawyer by day and comedian by night, Al was doing justice to neither. At comedy clubs, the crowds would stare, in court, the juries would laugh. Al gradually began getting work on the road, soon becoming a full-time comic. “I realized I had to give up the practice of law when clients began calling me for legal advice at places like the St. Louis Funny Bone.”
So, Al quit the law. This was a good decision, because within a year he won the $100,000 Grand Prize for comedy on Star Search. Doing the “The Tonight Show” was a child
