Ron Meeusen, PhD is a Managing Director of Cultivian Sandbox and co-founder and Managing Partner of Cultivian Ventures.  Ron has over 30 years of experience in bringing new technologies and products to market. He has led research and development for major corporations in agricultural chemicals, field crop and vegetable genetics and breeding, animal health, novel foods and industrial materials. His successful projects include the world’s first field trial of a genetically engineered crop trait in 1986, development and launch of one of the first insect and herbicide resistant corn hybrids in 1996, introduction of a trans-fat free canola oil, and development of dozens of new varieties of field and vegetable crops on three continents. Theresa Mintle is about a third of the way through a personal project to read a biography of every president in the order they served. Next on her agenda: Millard Fillmore, the 13th president.

While Fillmore will never make any list of White House all-stars, his pre-Civil War political career and the debate over slavery were a "fascinating" period in American history, says Ms. Mintle, 49, CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. "It was a couple generations of debate in the U.S. Congress before it really got to where Lincoln took it."

A history buff, Ms. Mintle started her presidential project five years ago after reading extensively about Thomas Jefferson. She liked that exercise so much that she decided to start from the beginning. Some of the biographies can get a little dry, she admits, so she has taken breaks with Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals" book on Abraham Lincoln and some historical fiction.

She knows a little something about political celebrity.
