Steven R. Tannenbaum
Steven R. Tannenbaum was born and grew up in the Rockaways of Queens, New York City. He attended the Hebrew Institute of Long Island through 9th grade, then moved to Hewlett, Long Island where he graduated from Woodmere H.S. in 1954. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1954-1962, earning a B.S. in Food Technology in 1958 and a PhD. in Food Science in 1962. He was then appointed to Assistant Professor in 1964 in the Department of Food Science and Technology leading up to Full Professor in 1974. Throughout his career he was mentored by Samuel A. Goldblith up until his death in 2001. In 1973 Tannenbaum did a sabbatical at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he decided to switch his career into cancer research at the suggestion of Gerald Wogan.
He has held appointments at MIT including Director of the Division of Toxicology (1996-1998) which he cofounded along with Douglas Lauffenburger, of the Division, and then Department of Biological Engineering, the first new academic Department in the MIT School of Engineering in over a

He is on the Board of Directors at The Museum of Modern Art.
He is responsible for overseeing the firm’s investments across all fund offerings.
In addition, Mr. Tananbaum is a Lead Portfolio Manager for GoldenTree Loan Management.
Mr. Tananbaum chairs GoldenTree Asset Management’s Executive Committee and Distressed Committee and is co-chair of the Risk Committee.
A veteran of the credit markets with over 30 years of investing experience, Mr. Tananbaum founded GoldenTree in 2000 and was instrumental in building the firm into an organization that is highly regarded for its investment process and partnership culture.
Prior to forming GoldenTree, Mr. Tananbaum spent over a decade at MacKay Shields.
He was head of the firm’s high yield group beginning on June 1, 1991 and, in 1997, founded its hedge fund business and served as the lead portfolio manager.

Stephen L. Tanenbaum was born August 16, 1948, in the Bronx, NY. When he was four, his family left their apartment building which was about to be demolished to build the Cross Bronx Expressway. They moved to White Plains, in nearby Westchester County, where Steve lived until he went to college.
For grades K-6, Steve went to Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary School not far from his house. He attended Post Road Junior High School and later, White Plains High School.
Steve’s major hobby as a child was, unsurprisingly, numismatics and from an early age he had an entrepreneurial bent. His brother Andy remembers, “One time when he was about 10, he asked our father to loan him $100, which he did. He then went to a local bank and asked for 2000 nickels, which the bank gave him. He tediously went through all 2000 nickels looking for rare or interesting ones. He might have found 4 or 5, perhaps a dozen at most. He then replaced these with ordinary, boring nickels, went back to the bank, and asked for 1000 dimes. Similarly, he went through the dimes one at a time and replaced a
