DOSSIER OF IVAN SARAJISHVILI BIOGRAPHY I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia (August 5, 1972) to an engineering family with deep roots in Georgian musical tradition. My great uncle Vano Sarajishvilli Senior, a famous opera singer, was one of the founders of the Tbilisi State Conservatory, which is named after him. I started playing piano at the age of seven and received piano training all the way up to my university studies. While pursuing my studies in international law at Tbilisi State University special permission was granted from the Georgian Ministry of Education so that I could be admitted parttime to the Organ Class of Tbilisi State Conservatory, and I became an organist at St Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Tbilisi. Interest and passion for music overtook my ambitions for a legal career and after acquiring a university degree in International Law with the diploma of honour (1994), I applied and was admitted to the Church Music Department of the State Academy of Music in Oslo, Norway. Vano Sarajishvili recognized as “Georgian Nightingale” was born in 1879 in Signaghi. At the age of 8, he entered the school for the nobility, where he used to sing in the pupils’ chorus. In 1903, the young singer left for St. Petersburg - it was there that his debut took place at Verdi's opera "Traviata". At the same time, under the leadership of Castellano, Sarajishvili mastered the art of Belcanto in Italy and performed in various cities of the country. From 1908 he arrived in Tbilisi and became a prominent figure in the Tbilisi opera scene, who periodically participated in operas by European and Russian composers, as well as romances of Georgian composers.
