Richard Morecroft
Richard is one of the Australia’s best known media figures, having been the ABC’s nightly TV newsreader for 20 years, the host of many documentary and educational programmes as well as the popular SBS quiz show “Letters and Numbers”.
He has a long-standing commitment to wildlife and the environment. For some years, he hosted his own wildlife show “Richard Morecroft Goes Wild” on ABC-TV, as well as writing and presenting documentaries for the ABC’s Natural History Unit.
He has authored or co-authored several books on wildlife and has been a Trustee of WWF (The World-Wide Fund for Nature).
Richard has also conducted on-stage interviews with a wide range of outstanding individuals, from comedian John Cleese to Australian of the Year Ita Buttrose and even the late Gough Whitlam. He also works with the National Library in Canberra interviewing prominent Australians for its oral history programme – and his YouTube channel “Exhibition – with Richard Morecroft” is dedicated to interviewing visual artists.

Richard Morecroft has a quarter century of experience in broadcasting and journalism as a television news and current affairs anchor and interviewer. He is perhaps best known for his two decades as the principal news presenter for ABC Television.
In addition to his broadcasting activities, Richard has worked with senior executives from a wide range of Australian companies and organisations to help focus their media performance and presentation skills.
Richard is also recognised as one of Australia’s leading conference hosts and facilitators; his on-stage interviews with senior executives or special guests have become a trademark feature.
In addition to his role in news and current affairs, Richard has been involved in a wide range of other broadcasting projects, from radio and TV educational programmes to election-night specials and wildlife documentaries, including hosting the very popular Letters and Numbers on SBS television.

About once or twice a year, I'd recall Richard Morecroft's last night presenting ABC News and the montage they had of him over the years. For someone who grew up with Morecroft as a tv staple, the memory of that night and that montage is still an incredibly nostalgic one. And also, the gasp that night during the montage of, oh my goodness, that hair!
I can't remember the first time I watched Morecroft present the news but it must have either been on ABC at home or BTN* at school. Morecroft was a peripheral but still big part of my childhood and I was so happy to find out he had published this anecdotal memoir of his time behind the newsd
