Emile Lahoud Jr.
Lebanese politician and swimmer
Emile Lahoud Jr., more commonly Emile Emile Lahoud, (born 21 January 1975) is a Lebanese politician and businessman.
Early life
Emile Lahoud Jr. was born in Baabdat, Lebanon on 21 January 1975.[1] He is the eldest son of former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and Andree Amadoni.[1]
Education
Emile Lahoud Jr. completed secondary education at International College in Beirut. He then enrolled at Notre Dame University (NDU). However, he transferred to the Lebanese American University (LAU) in 1993 where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing in 1997. Next, he began to study politics, international relations, economics, and social affairs at the graduate program of International Affairs at LAU. He received a master's degree there in 1999.[1][2]
Career
Emile Lahoud Jr. founded L and R communications, a media company, in 1999.[2] He was elected as the deputy of Metn in August 2000 in the general elections.[3][4] General Émile Geamil Lahoud (Arabic:اميل لحود) (born January 12, 1936) is the former President of Lebanon. He is the son of General Jamil Lahoud, a leader in the independence movement. Lahoud served under General Michel Aoun during the final years of the Lebanese Civil War (1975-90). After an Arab League-brokered cease-fire took effect, Lahoud crossed over into Syrian-occupied west Beirut. The Syrians were looking for a Maronite military officer to assume the position of army commander for the pro-Syrian regime in west Beirut, which was endorsed by the 1989 Taif Agreement. Lahoud was offered the position. According to one source, Lahoud had connections to an influential Syria army officer, Ali Hammoud, who recommended him for the job. He quickly accepted. He served in various posts in the military, including commander-in-chief of the army from 1989 to 1998, and then ran for the presidency in 1998, to general approval. Under the Lebanese constitution, the President's term was only supposed to be six years. However, in 2004 the parliament voted to extend his term General Emile Lahoud, 62-year-old commander of the Lebanese armed forces, has been elected to serve as Lebanon's next president, generating enthusiasm and renewed hope for a strong and united country. Although the presidency may have shed some of its power to the cabinet as outlined in the 1989 Taif agreement, Lahoud's ascendancy is nevertheless a tremendous achievement -- both for him personally and for Lebanon itself -- continuing a 55-year-old sociopolitical and electoral tradition of fostering national unity. The Lebanese constitution calls for the selection of a Maronite Christian president, a Sunni Muslim prime minister, and a Shiite Muslim speaker of the Parliament. Lahoud's rise has already stirred optimism both at home and throughout the region. In early October, investors exhibited their confidence in Lebanon's political future with their rush towards Lebanese-pound-denominated treasury bills, versus U.S. dollars. Throughout his career, General Lahoud has demonstrated high levels of competence and integrity. In 1988, he was elevated from
