2008: In January Shaggy, whose favorite city in Jamaica is Port Antonio, published the official Mascots song for 2008 European Football Championship called "Feel the Rush". The title was the first No. 1 success for seven years for him. The melody was taken from Samims track 'Heater' back from 2007. On 20 June 2008 he reached the officially number one in the German single charts. In February Shaggy was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category "Best Reggae Album".
2010: At the end of the year, Shaggy split from his longtime manager Robert Livinston, and thus left the label Big Yard. Thus, the way was open for the establishment of his new label Ranch Entertainment, together with Rayvon, Red Fox and Shaun Pizzonia.
2011: In January, his next studio album "Shaggy & Friends" was published. But this album was no Shaggy Album. Robert Livingston released it after the split with Shaggy and without his confirmation. Born Orville Richard Burrell and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Shaggy got his start as an MC in New York City’s burgeoning dancehall scene soon after moving to Brooklyn in his teens. Not long after serving four years in the U.S. Marines (including two tours of duty in the Middle East as part of Operation Desert Storm), he inked his first record deal and quickly scored a global crossover smash with “Oh Carolina.”
As the only diamond-selling dancehall artist in music history, Shaggy, has sold more than 40 million album units to date, in addition to landing eight singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and seven albums on the Billboard 200 (including four in the top 40). Orville Richard BurrellCD (born October 22, 1968),[1] known professionally as Shaggy, is a Jamaican-American[2]reggae musician who scored hits with the songs "It Wasn't Me", "Boombastic", "In the Summertime", "Oh Carolina", and "Angel". He has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best Reggae Album with Boombastic in 1996 and 44/876 with Sting in 2019, and has won the Brit Award for International Male Solo Artist in 2002.
In 2007, he was awarded the Jamaican Order of Distinction with the rank of Commander. In 2022, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Brown University.[3]
Early life
Orville Richard Burrell was born on October 22, 1968, in Kingston.[1] At the age of 18, he moved to New York City with his mother.[4]
