Rhys Thomas (born 12 December 1978)[1] is a British director, producer, actor, comedian and writer.
He is most famous for writing, directing and creating the multi award winning BBC/NBC Comedy drama series Dodger, a prequel to Oliver Twist and his roles in Star Stories, The Fast Show, Sirens and Nathan Barley. He also appears as Gary Bellamy on Radio 4's Down the Line and its television spin-off, Bellamy's People. Thomas was nominated for the Breakthrough Talent Award at the 2013 BAFTA Awards for producing and directing the feature-length documentary Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender and subsequently won Best Arts Documentary in both the 2013 Rose D'Or and International Emmy Awards. About Rhys
South African born Rhys Thomas had a thriving international sports career as a capped Welsh rugby player. Then, in 2012, at only 29 years old, he suffered a massive heart attack during training, and in a heartbeat, his life changed forever. The heart attack caused irreparable damage to his heart, and to give him any chance of survival, he had to have an LVAD pump (a mechanical heart) fitted. As a battery-powered half-man-half-machine, Rhys struggled to come to terms with his new reality and loss of identity, causing his mental health to deteriorate rapidly.
He drank heavily; living so recklessly that he would be seconds away from death on an almost weekly occurrence. Then, in 2019, Rhys hit rock bottom and ended up in rehab in South Africa. Rehab was his awakening. In recovery, he found peace within himself, learnt how to be present and rediscovered his purpose in life; to help others so that they don’t have to suffer as he has.

Rhys Thomas (born 18 September 1979) is a Welsh director and producer best known for his work on Saturday Night Live for NBC, in which he served as Film Unit producer and director of shorts and music, winning an Emmy Award in 2015, and the series Documentary Now! for IFC.[2][3]
Career
Rhys Thomas became the Saturday Night Live Film Unit producer in 2005 and in 2010 began directing shorts, music videos and commercial parodies for the show. He also directed and produced the SNL opening credit sequence in 2012–2018 and the opening credits for the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special, which he also produced and won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special in 2015.
