Adam Schlesinger
Adam Lyons Schlesinger[1] (October 31, 1967 – April 1, 2020) was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer. He was a founding member of the bands Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, and Tinted Windows with James Iha, and was a key songwriting contributor and producer for Brooklyn-based synth-pop duo Fever High. He also wrote songs for television and film, for which he won three Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and the ASCAP Pop Music Award, and was nominated for Academy, Tony, and Golden Globe Awards.[2]
He was the co-owner of Scratchie Records, a record label formed by James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky in 1995. He also co-owned Stratosphere Sound recording studio with Iha and Ivy's Andy Chase, where Tinted Windows was recorded.

Early life
Schlesinger was born in New York City on October 31, 1967,[3] the son of publicist Barbara (née Bernthal) and Stephen Schlesinger.[4] He was a cousin of actor Jon Bernthal[5] and the grandson of musician Murray Bernthal (1911–2010).[6] He was raised in a secular Jewish family[7][8] in the Manhattan borough of New York City and Montclair, New Jersey, attending Montclair High School in the latter.[9] He received a Bachelor of Arts in philoso

Adam Schlesinger was an American songwriter, composer and record producer. He was born on October 31, 1967 in New York City. Schlesinger grew up in a family with musical backgrounds and learned to play piano at age five. He was raised in Manhattan and Montclair, New Jersey where he played in bands throughout his time in high school. He attended Williams College in Massachusetts where he met Chris Collingwood whom he would join years later in forming the band Fountains of Wayne. Before that he played bass in the indie pop trio Ivy while also composing tracks for TV shows and commercials. During this time he also wrote his best known work, the title track to the Tom Hanks film "That Thing You Do". This earned him an Academy award nomination for Best Original Song. Schlesinger used to play bass for both Ivy and Fountains of Wayne while continuing his work on other projects as a producer, songwriter and performer.
