Who are the Idente Missionaries?

Institute Id of Christ the Redeemer, Idente Missionaries, is a new form of consecrated life of pontifical right, founded by Fernando Rielo in 1959 in Tenerife, Spain. It is made up of two branches: celibate clergy and laymen and celibate women who profess the Gospel counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience through public vows and associated men and women who make a commitment in keeping with their personal state through temporary or permanent promises to live out the charism and mission of the Institute. The community is present in twenty countries around the world (Africa, America, Asia, and Europe).

Charism

The Idente charism consists of following and identifying oneself with Christ, under the action of the Holy Spirit, by living out and bearing witness to a filial consciousness whose model for holiness is the Heavenly Father. This content is expressed in the name itself, Idente, which proceeds from the imperative “Go and preach the Gospel” and means ‘

June 29, 2009 was the Golden Jubilee of the Foundation of the
Institute Id of Christ the Redeemer, Idente Missionaries, a new form
of Consecrated Life in the Catholic Church.
1. Fernando Rielo: Founder
He was born in Madrid on August 28, 1923 into a very religious
family. He spent his childhood surrounded by the affection of his
parents and under the impression of being protected by our
Heavenly Father, whose constant, close presence governed his whole
life, and later marked the lifestyle of his spiritual sons and daughters.
The Spanish Civil War jolted him directly from a happy childhood to

Idente Youth Founder

Fernando Rielo was born in Madrid on August 28, 1923. From childhood on he experienced love for God in the Person of the Father, a love which governed his whole life.
At the age of sixteen he had an experience which marked him forever—the call of our Heavenly Father, who said to him, “Be holy, my son, as I am holy.” He himself stated, “I promised Him I would always repent of everything that might cause Him displeasure and that I would spend my entire life seeking his will..., and I began to desire that these words of the Father would enter the hearts of all.”

His passion for Christ also led him at that time to compose a prayer which he would later pass on to his Idente sons and daughters and which would come to form part of their observance: “I promise You, Lord, to live and transmit the Gospel with the sacrifice of my life and my reputation and, faithful to the greatest witness to love, to die for You.”
