Asdrubal Cabrera Biography

Asdrubal Cabrera is one of baseball’s most exciting players and a two-time All-Star.  Cabrera is currently with the Washington Nationals, whom he helped win the World Series in 2019. He was acquired for the Nationals stretch run and batted .323 with six home runs and 40 RBI in just 38 games.

Cabrera originally gained fame with the Cleveland Indians.  The 2011 season was his breakout campaign.  Cabrera won the American League Silver Slugger Award at shortstop by hitting 25 home runs with 92 RBIs.  The home runs set a record for a Cleveland shortstop.  He originally came up late in 2007 and helped the Indians finish in a tie for baseball’s best record.   While with the team in 2008, he turned just the 14th unassisted triple play in baseball history.

Cabrera’s almost eight-year run in Cleveland was halted when the Nationals acquired him for their playoff push late in the 2014 season. Before returning to Washington, he went to to play for several clubs, including the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers.

Each time, Cabrera slowly stood up, grimaced and hunched over as his left knee throbbed. Mets third baseman Jose Reyes, who had scored on Cabrera's double, looked on from the dugout with a mixture of admiration and sympathy. 'It was painful watching him,' Reyes said in Spanish later. A lot of things have been painful for the Mets this season, given the onslaught of injuries that, among other things, has derailed
