Three score and ten is usually the age when one retires and begins to take things easier, after a life of hard work. However, for artists like Vladimir Horowitz, it was time to find a second or third wind, making his miraculous comeback during the 1980s to thrill a new generation of music lovers. For Horowitz’s sometime student Tedd Joselson, the Belgian-American pianist now permanent resident in Singapore, it was a case of history repeating itself. One was hard stretched to imagine a septuagenarian attempting three piano concertos in a single evening, but this was no mere flight of fantasy for the indefatigable.
Joselson’s recording career began in the early 1970s with the RCA recording of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto (partnered by no less than the Philadelphia Orchestra and Eugene Ormandy), so it was this concerto that opened the three-hour long marathon concert. Its familiar opening nee

New performances of the Grieg Piano Concerto and Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto might be cause for more or less excitement depending on the listener's familiarity with the many other recordings available. What is less a matter of debate, however, is the value of the release when it features Tedd Joselson at the keyboard. Belgian-born to an American father and Belgian mother, he famously auditioned for Eugene Ormandy, then music director for the Philadelphia Orchestra, in 1973 and made such a splash the conductor told him he could choose the material and the orchestra would follow. Two years later, Joselson gave his debut piano recital at Lincoln Center and thereafter distinguished himself for his broad command of repertoire and numerous awards and Grammy nominations. He retired from public performance in 1999, whereupon he directed his energies into preparing young pianists for music careers whilst enjoying life in Singapore.

Tedd Joselson ( 1954 ) was born in Antwerp, Belgium. He studied at the Julliard School of Music and conductor Eugue Ormandy declared him to be a true talent. Due to this, RCA would sign Joselson and he would record composers which include Chopin, Liszt, and Prokofiev. He continues to perform and record under various labels which include Turnabout, Perpetua and Olympia.
